Rivopump
Sustainable river power pump

The 3 core problems:
1. Climate change leads to unpredictable rainfall and prolonged droughts, especially in subtropical and tropical regions.
2. As a result, farmers rely on diesel engines, which are expensive, environmentally damaging, and require high maintenance.
3. Additionally, there is a significant problem of plastic pollution in Kenya.
The vision/solution:
The vision:
We enable small-scale farmers in Kenya to have easy access to irrigate their fields with river water. This ensures their livelihoods during times of drought and climate change and contributes to overall food security in Kenya.
The idea:
A mobile water wheel that drives a simple pump to extract river water into an irrigation system or a water tank.

OpenAdvo
AI-supported application assistant for social benefits

Core problem:
Complexity and barriers when applying for social benefits: Citizens have difficulties filling out complex forms, encounter language barriers and bureaucratic hurdles, which leads to the non-utilisation of legitimate benefits.
Inefficiency and high workload in public authorities: Administrative processes around application support and citizen counselling are time-consuming, expensive and lead to a significant burden on public institutions struggling with a shortage of skilled workers and increasing demands.
Lack of digital and user-friendly administrative services: Despite the clear need and legal requirements for digitalisation (e.g. Online Access Act), existing digital services are often underused and unattractive for citizens as they are neither intuitive nor barrier-free
Solution: AI-supported application assistant for social benefits
OpenAdvo offers an AI-supported application assistant that effectively guides citizens through the application process for social benefits. The digital assistant works as a dialogue-oriented chatbot and offers the following advantages
Step-by-step guidance: Users are guided through complex forms in an understandable and multilingual manner, thereby breaking down barriers.
Reduction of standard enquiries: The assistant automatically answers common questions and helps to avoid typical errors in applications, which significantly reduces the burden of counselling at public authorities.
Low-threshold access: Thanks to digital availability around the clock, applications can be submitted more easily regardless of language or bureaucratic knowledge.
Overall, OpenAdvo creates a user-friendly interface that improves access to social benefits while increasing the efficiency of public administration.

Innovative products to support visually impaired people

The 3 core problems:
Everyday barriers:
Visually impaired individuals encounter numerous obstacles in their daily lives, hindering them from leading a comfortable lifestyle.
Communication hurdles:
They either rely on abstract and complex communication methods to understand the world around them or are forced into isolation, leading to further complications.
Disadvantage in education and career:
Visually impaired individuals often have less access to education and career opportunities, limiting their full potential.
Vision:
We enable individuals with limited vision to experience the world around them through various elegant, discreet accessories that are state-of-the-art.
Idea:
Glasses and related products with an integrated technical solution that assist visually impaired individuals in recognizing various objects, reading texts, handling data, etc., enabling them to lead a fulfilling and independent life through an interactive medium.

Leaf & Coast
We preserve the Gabes-Oase with innovative products made from dates

Background:
In the Gabes oasis in Tunisia, hundreds of families make their living from 300,000 date palms. The farmers harvest dates, while women make handmade bags from palm leaves.
Problems:
Many families are giving up their palm gardens because the business is no longer profitable. There are three reasons for this:
- The dates from Gabes have many nutrients but do not taste as good as other dates. Two-thirds of the harvest is thrown away.
- The products made by the artisans are no longer modern and they earn little money.
- Neither livelihood nor retirement can be secured.
Solution:
- Leaf & Coast offers environmentally friendly products made from palm leaves with modern designs and sustainable materials at fair prices on the German market.
- Leaf & Coast develops nutrient-rich energy bars from unsold dates. Traditional organic coffee is made from the remaining date pits.

Save the Grain
Innovative Solar Dryers for Sustainable Food Security
The 3 Core Problems:
Indirect Harvest Losses: Inefficient farming methods prevent the full potential of the harvest from being realized, leading to indirect losses of around 30%.
Direct Post-Harvest Losses: Over 20% of the harvest is lost due to a lack of or inefficient drying and storage methods, forcing farmers to sell their produce immediately. This results in market oversupply and price drops.
Dependence on Middlemen: Many farmers lack direct market access and are dependent on middlemen who buy their produce at low prices, further worsening their economic situation.
Solution:
Save The Grain adopts a holistic approach by utilizing innovative solar dryers to make food drying and storage more efficient and environmentally friendly. This reduces food losses in Sub-Saharan Africa and improves the storability of harvests. Additionally, we collaborate with women's cooperatives to market Senegalese products under the "FemmePact" brand, creating new income opportunities for women.

GreenwashingChecker
Advertise with sustainability - but honestly

The problem: companies advertise sustainability - and nobody knows what they mean.
‘Climate neutral’, “ocean plastic” and hundreds of other terms confuse consumers. That's why
often inadvertently buy products that are actually harmful to the environment.
The solution: stricter laws. They will soon define who is allowed to advertise with which environmental claim.
Our idea: The GreenwashingChecker is an AI tool that uncovers misleading claims.
It helps companies to comply with the law and thus ensures that greenwashing disappears from advertising.
disappears from advertising.

The problem of overconsumption in the fashion industry
The fashion cycle has accelerated dramatically in recent years. The number of collections launched each year has increased by 400%. This flood of new trends and designs is leading to ever-increasing consumption, especially in Western countries. But this rapid change in fashion has consequences.
On average, garments are now only worn 7 times before they disappear into the depths of the wardrobe. In fact, over 50% of garments remain unused and gather dust without being worn. The result? An enormous consumption of resources, increasing mountains of waste and a fashion culture that favours fast consumption instead of conscious decisions.
This consumer behaviour not only pollutes the environment, but also leads to irresponsible use of valuable resources. The challenge is to raise awareness of sustainable fashion consumption and highlight alternatives.
Our solution: modular clothing for sustainable consumption
Our innovative modular clothing offers an answer to this problem. With a flexible design that can be adapted over time, our garments can be easily updated and extended. Minimalist alterations make it possible to follow current trends without having to constantly buy new pieces.
In addition, our garments are designed so that damaged modules can be replaced and returned. In this way, we create a circular system: long-lasting clothing that can be repaired, renewed and adapted to changing needs.
Our designs save resources by using sustainable process technologies and minimising material waste through precise cuts. At the same time, we ensure fair wages by cooperating with responsible production partners.
Our aim is to create a new way of looking at clothing:
Thanks to modular elements, you can customise designs, swap out details and reinvent your clothes again and again without replacing them.
Made to give you the freedom to wear more with less.
